Walter S. Alhassan
 
  Walter S. Alhassan is the West and Central African Coordinator of ABSPII. Prior to that he was the Director General of the Ghana Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), a position he held for 9 years till retirement in 2002. Under consultancy assignment from the FAO of the United Nations in 1999, Alhassan conducted extensive studies on the status of biotechnology in Eastern, Western and Southern Africa. Later in 2000 and 2002 he conducted more detailed studies on the status and application of biotechnology in a cross- section of countries in West and Central Africa within the CORAF mandate area. These studies were funded by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Walter Alhassan holds a Ph.D in Animal and Poultry Science from the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada and the Masters in Dairy Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin.
